Web Updates: Special Characters
Monday, March 12, 2012 06:14 AM

I wanted to update everyone on some behind-the-scenes technical stuff we're working on to make the OBFS site better!

Right now, our site has an issue with what are known online as "special characters"--basically, words with accents or diacritical marks: Ñ, Ç, and Ý, for example.  When those go into the database, they come back out again as...well, not words.  And you may see your station name, or your name, suddenly transformed into something strange.

We are aware of this problem, and have received word from the server folks that they think they will be able to allow "special characters" by the end of 2012.  There is extensive testing involved, since sometimes databases think those characters are command codes.

So, while I can't offer you that feature today, I wanted you to know that we know it's a problem, and are working on a solution that appropriately supports the international membership and diversity of OBFS.
