Location (Field Station): Flathead Lake Biologica l Station, Montana, USA
Course Description: M–F, Full Day, 3 Credits Prerequisites: One semester of college- level biology and an ecology course or consent of instructor. This course w ill emphasize application of basic biological research to problems in conse rvation and management with a focus on science, human dimensions, and polic y interface in three main disciplines/areas in conservation biology: Ecolog y, Evolution, and Human Dimension. Primary course themes are: effects of in troduced species on biodiversity, population abundance and connectivity, un its of conservation and the Endangered Species Act, and general organismal field ecology. Themes will be applied to case studies chosen to illustrate general principles and important issues in conservation and to facilitate d iscussions with professional field and conservation biologists. We will mee t with professionals from government or nongovernment organizations providi ng a special opportunity to interactively learn by working side by side wit h conservation biologists, researchers, and natural resource managers from USGS, Montana FWP, US Forest Service, and the National Park Service.
