Description of Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of Rice Creek Field Station will be responsible for developing and executing rigorous educational programs and communicating research to the public, local schools, and other groups that use the Field Station. Responsibilities also include, but are is not limited to, planning, developing, and scheduling public education programs; planning, developing, and coordinating environmental education programs for children; planning projects and communicating research on contemporary environmental issues; and assisting in the logistics of the use of Field Station facilities and equipment by faculty and students at SUNY Oswego as well as the maintenance and use of its natural history collections.

The Assistant Director is expected to work as part of a team to provide support and assistance to visitors; collaborate professionally, flexibly, and collegially with faculty members and students on academic matters; assist and support the Director of the Field Station on necessary projects and responsibilities

In addition, the Assistant Director of Rice Creek Field Station will be expected to display a commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in science or science education with specialties including such areas as ecology, environmental sciences, field biology, museum curation, landscape management, or related areas by the time of appointment.
  • A commitment to effective public outreach and to the development of meaningful educational programs.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to effectively deal with students from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in public outreach, field biology, land management, or grant development to support the Field Station programs.
  • Ph.D. in the sciences
