Position announcement:  Director, Santa Rosa Island Research Station

California State University Channel Islands (CI) partners with Channel Islands National Park through a cooperative agreement to operate a research station on Santa Rosa Island.  The research station plays a prominent role in CI’s undergraduate research efforts and provides opportunities for diverse groups of students to participate in field science and other life-changing experiences.

The research station director is responsible for leadership and day-to-day operations of the Santa Rosa Island Research Station.  The director serves as the station’s representative to the Park Service, other partner organizations and the general public.  The director manages the use of facilities, programming, and logistical support activities for research station guests.  The director leads planning for physical and organizational needs of the research station.  The director serves as the primary contact for those visiting the station and is responsible for providing orientation, facilitating station activities, and ensuring compliance with operating procedures and protocols.  The director has responsibility for fulfilling all elements of the research station mission including research, education and outreach to diverse populations.  The director initiates and supports both program and fund development activities in support of the research station.

A graduate degree in a field science related to the scope of research station operations (including, but not limited to, archeology, biology, environmental science, geology) is required.  The director must have experience working in a field setting involving research and service activities equivalent to those occurring at the research station.
