For more than 40 years, Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre (BMSC) has supported year-round education and research on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. BMSC is owned and managed by a not-for-profit organization, the Western Canadian Universities Marine Sciences Society, whose members are University of Alberta, University of British Columbia, University of Calgary, Simon Fraser University and University of Victoria.

Reporting to the Director, the Deputy Director/Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day provision, operation and maintenance of the BMSC’s facilities, building systems and infrastructure. The Deputy Director/Operations Manager supports the BMSC’s long-term goals, strategic plans and organizational change; and is committed to innovative and evolving programs and services. The Deputy Director/Operations Manager facilitates and participates in initiatives to enhance community engagement and partnerships for the BMSC.

The Deputy Director/Operations Manager has a degree, diploma and/or other professional qualifications in a relevant field, with a minimum of seven years of facility supervisory or building operations experience.  The Deputy Director/Operations Manager has a collaborative leadership style, with an ability to lead organizational change and engage across with multiple and diverse stakeholders. The Deputy Director/Operations Manager is expected to live on or near campus.
