Recruitment and Outreach Coordinator

The University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS) is seeking to hire a new staff member to coordinate student recruitment and station outreach.  This full-time position will be based in Ann Arbor during the fall and winter terms and at the Biological Station’s northern Michigan campus May through August. 

Responsibilities

 With the direction of the Biological Station Director and Associate Director, the Recruitment and Outreach Coordinator’s responsibilities are listed below.

  • Develop a marketing plan and lead undergraduate and graduate student recruitment for all Biological Station programs, including producing and distributing marketing materials, giving recruitment and orientation presentations and advising students on and off the Ann Arbor campus.
  • Develop, coordinate and participate in all station community, donor, alumni and public events for the Biological Station in Ann Arbor, Pellston and Midwestern region, including the winter research meeting, open houses, tours, alumni/friend events, and the summer lecture and events series.
  • Manage website content and function and maintain regular social media promotional postings.  Document program activities using audio and visual tools, including all camp photos and field work in the spring and summer terms.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with UM and Northern Michigan news outlets by promoting, writing and distributing information in the form of articles and press releases.  Produce annual newsletters (2-3).   
  • Support development efforts through gift stewardship, correspondence, and External Advisory Board meeting coordination and documentation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two to three years of communications and outreach experience is required (or equivalent combination of education and experience).  Excellent oral presentation, written and verbal communication skills.  Experience interacting with diverse populations.  Previous experience creating and implementing recruitment/marketing communication plans and demonstrated experience in producing print, website, social media, digital advertising, and other media communications.  Proficiency with social media promotion.  Must be able to spend a total of 8-12 weeks at the Biological Station in Pellston, Michigan, mainly during the summer months with fall trips likely. 

Desired Qualifications

Experience in a higher education setting and a familiarity with field stations.  Experience using Google Analytics.  Event and meeting coordination experience is also desired.
