They participate in board voting and in setting goals and priorities for the organization. Members-at-Large may acquire special projects or responsibilities as defined by the President or the board. Both regular Members-at-Large serve on the Program (Annual Meeting) Committee, which is chaired by the Vice President. 12:28:43 From Anne Kelly : There have been requests from the membership to have a more diverse pool of nominees - please nominate yourself or another member, don’t be shy! 12:29:00 From Sarah Oktay : we send out the ballot to all voting members in the Fall/early winter - you need to submit a headshot and a short paragraph on who you are and why you are running to Stacy 12:29:06 From Stacy McNulty : Nominate early, nominate often ( : 12:29:17 From Skip Van Bloem : David—I’ve been working with a group in Puerto Rico for many years and have been encouraging them to set up as a formal field station. Since PR is a US territory, is it international? It’s always caught in some limbo. 12:30:18 From Stacy McNulty : Treasurer Duties The Treasurer documents and manages all financial transactions of the organization. Responsible for financial bookkeeping and record keeping. Bookkeeping records are subject to annual audit by the Vice President. The Treasurer prepares annual financial and membership reports to be presented at the Annual Meeting and published in the Annual Report. The Treasurer is the primary/first contact for new and renewing field stations, so often must be willing to respond to a broad range of inquiries or direct them to the proper place to get a response. For instance, the treasurer is routinely asked by new members or those considering membership what the benefits are and how to access the affiliates section of the website. In other words, the treasurer often acts as a public face and outreach role. 12:30:20 From Sarah Oktay : Skip we do have PR members or did in the past 12:30:35 From Phoebe Jekielek : David - Tiputini Biodiversity Station in Ecuador…are they a member?? Kelly Swing was present at the UFERN Workshop on Monday, so it makes me think they may be, but I don’t recall seeing their name in the past. 12:30:50 From Skip Van Bloem : Yes—Jess Zimmerman from El Verde UPR RP. 12:31:43 From Skip Van Bloem : I guess my Q was if PR is international, though I suppose it doesn’t matter a whole lot, members are members. 12:31:57 From Jason Wallace : YEAH Tom!! 12:32:34 From Skip Van Bloem : Wholly Toledo! Two meetings?!!!! 12:32:36 From Sarah Oktay : I believe we count them as US; other member station is Cayo Santiago in PR and maybe one more 12:32:46 From Sarah Oktay : Yay Tom!! 12:37:08 From Jason Wallace : Can’t Wait!! 12:37:20 From Sarah Oktay : super excited! 12:37:31 From James Elser : we look forward to welcoming you all! 12:37:32 From Rhonda Struminger (she/her) : Thanks Tom for all your work this year - looking forward to next! 12:37:34 From Skip Van Bloem : I’m ready. Let’s go! 12:37:44 From Dexter Mardis (he/him/his) : I'll be there! (hopefully) 12:39:45 From Tom Bansak : I forgot to mention that there are lots of VRBOs around Flathead Lake. Just make sure you look at the East Shore. Long commute from the other side of the lake 12:54:09 From Claudia Luke : FYI: The Virtual Field is currently collaborating with many of the networks you mentioned: NEON, LTER, LTAR, ESA, NutNet, etc. 12:54:34 From Dexter Mardis (he/him/his) : I'm sure that noise in the background was a powertool, but my heart hopes it was a cicada. 12:54:46 From Skip Van Bloem : Hissing cobra? 12:54:46 From Sarah Oktay : cicada 12:54:56 From Dexter Mardis (he/him/his) : <3 thanks, sarah 12:55:06 From Paul Frederick Foster : cicadas. 12:55:13 From Stefanie Whitmire : clearly skip is a plant researcher 12:55:42 From Dexter Mardis (he/him/his) : Though my speakers, it sounded like a grinder on metal. The rhythm is all that suggested cicada. 12:55:44 From Claudia Luke : Could you restate our vision? I.e., where are we trying to get out of each of these planning groups. 12:56:15 From Dexter Mardis (he/him/his) : @ Stephanie hahahahaha 12:56:29 From Skip Van Bloem : I’m too sappy to work with organisms that bleed. 12:57:22 From Paul Frederick Foster : sorry for leaving my mic on. 12:58:49 From Jennifer Seavey : Who do we send quotes to?? Skip…. 12:59:05 From Sarah Oktay : stacy M is collecting quotes 12:59:16 From Stacy McNulty : Send quotes to me or Philippe, thanks! 12:59:24 From Phoebe Jekielek : Yes, they cannot be extractive, I love that Elizabeth 12:59:41 From Philippe S. Cohen : Send quotes to me or Stacy McNulty. 13:02:08 From Claudia Luke : It would be helpful if each of the planning groups identified a vision - a place they want to get to. Then we can see if the goals will allow us to get there. 13:02:18 From Hilary Swain (she/her) : I am wondering how we can best cross reference the outcomes for the SP with the emerging virtual field project 13:03:55 From Philippe S. Cohen : The statement that Elizabeth read at the beginning is our initial take on a vision statement. That will be posted with the draft of the DEI plan. 13:04:34 From Jason Wallace : My position is up for grabs. 13:05:57 From Philippe S. Cohen : Hilary, that is a really important question and hopefully those of you in the virtual field project will weigh in on. Look at the objectives associated with goals and proposed actions as a really good place to insert such cross references and outcomes. 13:09:15 From Brian Keas-Au Sable (he/him) : Yes - thanks Jason T for figuring out how to get us as a member and update our payment! 13:10:58 From Mike Hamilton : As a individual member, retired from managing two stations, there does not appear means via the website to even see whom the other individual members might be, their prior station affiliations, and how we might best participate in OBFS besides being part of “history” 13:15:30 From Faustine Bernadac : Thanks Sarah! 13:16:22 From Jason Tallant : Hi Mike, this has been intentional, but we could make this an option for individual members to say please surface me on the webpage so folks can find me. 13:16:32 From Stacy McNulty : Thank you Mike for the great feedback and staying engaged! 13:16:36 From Lara Roketenetz : I think we should all agree on at last some shared hashtags to use on social media to link us all together under the obfs umbrella #obfsisthebest 13:16:46 From David Maneli : Thanks Sarah 13:16:55 From Philippe S. Cohen : Mike, good point. I’ve taken that for granted because as treasurer I could always see, but I think Jason’s suggestion is on the mark. 13:17:11 From Rick Boyce : Excellent idea, Lara! 13:17:24 From Dexter Mardis (he/him/his) : Agreed on #hashtags! Very important 13:18:08 From Sarah Oktay : we have some Lara and we have a Twitter account and IG and Facebook, we BIG time need help with that 13:18:39 From Sarah Oktay : @OBFSFieldBio 13:18:50 From Sarah Oktay : twitter handle above @OBFSFieldBio 13:19:00 From Dexter Mardis (he/him/his) : I try to use #fieldstation or #biologicalfieldstation on some of my posts, but am not super consistent on it yet 13:19:10 From Skip Van Bloem : just a quick note on membership. We expect the website questions to continue and a redesign to occur at some point, before too long. If you have website skills or success in a redesign, and including information/registration as we do with OBFS, it would be great if you can share with the membership group. Jason Tallant can’t do it all! 13:19:21 From Sarah Oktay : https://www.facebook.com/joinobfs 13:19:29 From Sarah Oktay : #OBFS2020 for this meeting 13:19:31 From Lesley Knoll : Tweet now! Use #OBFS2020 for this current meeting and our twitter handle is @OBFSFieldBio 13:19:47 From Lara Roketenetz : something catchy that people would be more likely to remember would be good. someone good with puns should weigh in 13:20:11 From Phoebe Jekielek : Skip seems like a pun guy 13:21:05 From Sarah Oktay : #FieldScience 13:21:30 From Dexter Mardis (he/him/his) : Don't forget about #scientistswhoselfie, too! 13:23:34 From Dexter Mardis (he/him/his) : There is an IG account? I cannot find it.. 13:23:54 From Sarah Oktay : there is Vanessa started it; I will put that here shortly 13:24:54 From Lara Roketenetz : I think it should be more specific to field stations but that's just my opinion #FSML or #OBFS 13:25:22 From Stacy McNulty : Thanks for your leadership, Chris! 13:26:18 From Jennifer Seavey : Sarah/Brian- Is the Friends of OBFS in the SP? 13:27:09 From Anne Kelly : Can you set a specific time, Philipe? 13:27:34 From Anne Kelly : 2:30?
